Layoffs At Navistar Chatham For 2007?

Posted on August 4, 2006

Navistar International Corp. announced the potential for layoffs in 16 weeks at its Chatham, Ontario heavy truck assembly plant. The company said that if layoffs occur, it would be the result of an anticipated market decline because of the truck industry currently buying ahead of the stricter emissions regulations that go into effect beginning in January. The early notice is to meet the requirements of the Ontario Employment Standards Act.

The Chatham plant is the primary source for the company's 9000 series heavy trucks sold under the International brand. The current production schedule at the plant is 200 units per day, up from 162 units per day in January 2006. The plant is gearing up for production of the ProStar, the company's new heavy truck.
