Engineering Contest Award Winners Named At bauma
bauma 2013 was the venue for the presentation of the third Diesel Progress Excellence In Equipment Engineering Awards. Sponsored by powertrain specialist ZF and held at the ZF stand, the awards are intended to recognize superior engineering in real-world machines and equipment.
The winners were selected by vote of readers of Diesel Progress North American Edition and Diesel Progress International Edition. Weighing the merits of machines in 14 different categories that were selected by an expert panel, a total of 25,754 individual ballots were cast.
The winners were, with percentage of the total vote:
Wheel Loaders: The Caterpillar 938 (64%).
Backhoe Loaders: The John Deere 410K (67%).
Wheeled Excavators: The Caterpillar 316D (46%).
Crawler Excavators: Caterpillar 349E (58%).
Off-Highway Trucks: The John Deere 460E (50%).
Compact Wheel Loaders: The Volvo L 50 (69%).
Skid-Steer/Track Loaders: The Bobcat 770 all-wheel steer skid-steer loader (70%).
Mini Excavators: The Caterpillar E Series (48%).
Telescopic Handlers: The SkyTrak 10054(50%).
Cranes: The Liebherr LTM 1030-2.1 (50%).
Internal Combustion Forklifts: The Hyundai 160D-7E (47%).
Motor Graders: The Volvo G990 (59%).
Compactors/Rollers: The Caterpillar B Series tandem roller (48%).
Agricultural Equipment: The New Holland T9 tractor.
The awards were presented to the winners by Diesel Progress Associate Publisher Mike Brezonick in a ceremony at the ZF stand at bauma 2013.
