Cat Names Utley CTO

Caterpillar Inc. today announced that Tana L. Utley has been appointed chief technology officer and vice president of the Technology & Solutions Division, effective June 1, 2007.

Utley, 43, joined Caterpillar in 1986 after graduating from Bradley University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. She has held a variety of engineering and management positions throughout the Cat. In 2006, Utley entered the Sloan Fellows program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) . In May, she will graduate with a masters of science in management. Prior to attending MIT, Utley led the Electronic & Electrical Systems business unit in Caterpillar's Motion & Power Control Division.

Utley replaces Caterpillar Vice President Mark Pflederer, who now has responsibility for the Heavy Construction & Mining Division. Utley will report to Group President Gerry Shaheen.
