JCB has announced that it has hit the 100 per day production rate with its 444 diesel engine. The 4.4 L four-cylinder engine is based on 1.1 L/cyl. design and is rated 74 and 84 hp naturally aspirated up to 100 hp turbocharged and 125 hp charge-cooled turbocharged.

The engine is produced at JCB’s Dove Valley Park, U.K. plant and according to JCB, powers more than half of its equipment lineup including such machines as its 4CX, 3C, 3CX and 2CX JCB backhoe loaders and Loadall telescopic handlers. JCB also said that the 444 engine has been adapted for pump units, marine applications and for use in construction equipment and similar machinery and over time it expects that 20% of the 444’s production to be marketed to third parties.
