Deep Cuts For Tecumseh

Tecumseh Products Co. is cutting about 390 jobs from its New Holstein, Wis. operations, eliminating more than half of the union work-force positions, according to an article in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

The newspaper reported that "permanent layoffs" are expected June 9, the company said in a notice received sent to a state workforce agency. The Journal-Sentinel said company officials would not comment on the layoffs. But the numbers are expected to include 315 production workers, 65 indirect production workers, and 10 salaried workers, according to the notice.

"This layoff is due to current business conditions that directly affect the New Holstein operations," the notice says.
